Remembering Adelino Amaro da Costa
Today is the 31st anniversary of the tragic death of Adelino Amaro da Costa, a great Portuguese patriot and promoter of European Conservatism. Amaro da Costa fought the forces of tyranny and oppression and helped to pave the way for the establishment of parliamentary democracy in his country. Amaro da Costa co-founded and was the parliamentary leader of the then Democratic and Social Centre party, todays People's Party. By founding Portugal's only openly anti-socialist party, he built the foundation for conservatism and freedom in Portugal. His hardwork, political vision and courage should be an example to Portugal even today. On this day the Alliance of European Conservatives and Reformists sends its best wishes to the CDS-PP and reaffirms its sorrow for the premature loss of this brilliant man.
